Syringa is a genus of 12 currently recognized species of a variety of colored flowering woody plants in the olive family, native to woodland and scrub from southeastern Europe to eastern Asia, commonly known as lilac bushes. Lilac plants do poorly in cold climates. Dying back during freezing temperatures to emerge in warm Spring sunshine.
